Explorers and data

The Landsat program, initiated in 1972 with Landsat 1, has reliably provided data since Landsat 4. The USGS offers public access to Landsat Collection 2 Level-2 products, with images from 1982 to present, allowing essential observations of Earth's changes.

Launched in 2014, Sentinel-1 is ESA's space-based SAR system. Capable of seeing through clouds or smoke, Sentinel-1 does not rely on solar illumination of the Earth's surface, allowing it to collect useful imagery in most weather conditions, day or night. This data can be used to map flooding, deforestation, oil spills and many other land and marine applications.

The Copernicus Sentinel-2 mission, launched in 2015, consists of two identical satellites that capture optical images of land, water, and air every five days. Each satellite has a multispectral sensor with 13 bands at resolutions of 10, 20, and 60 meters.
